Stone’s Town & Country Motors began as Parker & Stone Equipment Company in 1955.  At that time our founders Mr. Jack Stone and his brother in-law Mr. Albert Parker, borrowed $10,000 to start the Massy Harris tractor dealership in St. Anthony, Idaho.   Mr. Parker was one of the best mechanics in the county, and Mr. Stone was well known in the community for his service as Fremont County Clerk.

In fact, it was at a Fremont County Commission Meeting that a Massey Harris Factory Representative approached Mr. Stone about taking over the Massey Harris Franchise.   At that time the commission held their meetings at a local restaurant.  The Massey Harris representative was also at the restaurant trying to convince another individual to purchase the franchise, when this individual refused, the representative approached Mr. Stone.  Mr. Stone recognized an opportunity and seized it.  He approached Mr. Parker with the idea, arranged a small loan to buy some inventory and the St. Anthony store began.

Mr. Ray Loveland opened the Rexburg store in 1966.  It also began as a dirt lot with a camping trailer for a sales office.  For the first few years Mr. Loveland sold equipment during the day and assembled and delivered it at night often arriving at 6:30am and departing at 10:30 pm.

In 1966 Mr. Stone purchased the Toyota franchise to reduce the seasonal swings in the farm equipment business, and the Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge franchise was added in 1973.  In 1985 it was decided that our customers would be better served if the automobile and the farm equipment inventories were centralized.  Hence, the farm equipment dealership was moved to St. Anthony and the automobile dealership remained in Rexburg.

Through the years Stones Town & Country Motors has sold Massey Harris, Massey Ferguson, Hesston, Logan, and Ford New Holland farm equipment; and Rambler, International Harvester, AMC, Jeep, Toyota, Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, and Eagle automobiles.

From their humble beginnings assembling balers in Mr. Parker’s garage, Mr. Stone and his successor, Ray Loveland, have built an automobile and equipment dealership employing approximately 30 individuals.
